REFLECTION ON SEMESTER 1: NURSING Day one! hebdomad one! Year one of my future career as a nurse! Im really stimulated about commencing studies to enter this unique and noble profession. As a mature aged student Ive tood and frod about coming to back to university for a correspond of years but the time is right and Im really passionate about my chosen career path. At least that was how I felt before the first lecture. Whilst I thought I was coming in with a healthy knowledge of what I was narrowting myself into I cant help feeling daunted by the task at hand and wondering if I am able to be taught all the aptitudes required to successfully complete the transformation to call on a knowledgeable, multitasking confident and competent nurse. Im flourishing enough to come into this course with a little wasted knowledge of nurses. I currently work one on one with critical care nurses in the transportation of high acuity patients between hospital environments. Even with this experience I am astounded by the amount I am finding this course is educating me and finds my admiration of their awareness and varied skill sets growing by the day.

As the week (and indeed the semester) has at peace(p) on I score had my thought process ever challenged and extended through the combinations of units studied, reading, class discussions and further research. Prior to start this course if you asked me what it meant to be a nurse I would acquit told you it was to be a caring, knowledgeable, hands on assistant to assistant patient recovery. If you had asked me what the essential qualities of a nurse were I would have responded something along the lines of being a talented multitasker with good social skills. Whilst, both of these ideas are not completely incorrect it doesnt come close to representing what it truly means and the full spectrum of the qualities distinguish to being an effective nurse.
