Walker is one of the most productive black women writers in America. She wanted to make a stir in this world, and her literature certainly did that. Walker knows who and how to write closely things, especially real life events. Walker not only wrote essays, poems, and short stories, but she also wrote to help people everywhere. Walker lived in poverty for most of childhood and as an early adult. The one thing her family did give her was support, love and kindness. Her pargonnts encouraged her to paint, take in music, and to write. Her first-year love was painting, and she would later find that writing was her global calling. With the encouragement of her parents, she started to see the world differently. She took things in her surrounding as not only beautiful in the sense of appearing but she captured the life value of the objects, she went into deeper thinking other than the obvious. Walkers mother, Minnie Lou Walker, also appreciated the beautiful outdoors, and because of this the two of them are very close.

Her mother was her fine-lookinggest supporter to begin writing, and a big influence on the stories Walker chose to write and publish as well. When Walker was only eight years old she had a tragic accident happen to her. Her older brothers Curtis and Bobby had talked Walker into playacting the game Cowboys and Indians. From this game she accidently got shot by Curtis in the mall with a BB gun, and later lost her sight in her right eye from this.
