This is the first short tier by Edgar Allan Poe that Ive read, The Cask of Amontillado. The tale is of two men, one manner of walking the other to his death with go forth him knowing it. A tale of manipulation, bleached foreshadowing, damp and creepy catacombs, and no story would be consummate(a) without a climactic death at the end. Very subatomic is told to us about the two characters involved, the narrator and Fortunato, but this takes nada away from the story. The narrator tells of the event of how he committed debate murder and seems to enjoy the re sexual relation of it. I am convinced that the narrator is shouting at me, revenge is sweet, with a deep, kind cackle fading into the darkness.
Revenge is a dish scoop up served cold. This is a very well known saying and reverberates throughout the story. Revenge isnt something to take at the spur of the moment in anger. No, no. Revenge is best when it is thought out, meticulously think and executed. At length I would be avenged. (47) The word length is even in italics. The narrator is telling the reader that this event wasnt a whim, but a calculated plan. The narrator puts on a mask of black silk (49), illustrating his criminal intent towards Fortunato. Further on in the story we see another piece of his premeditation.
