Introduction: In this lab there were several purposes. individually purpose was to help further the classs fellow feeling of thermodynamics. Thermodynamics studies the diversifys in chemical and physical reactions and how energy influences those changes. When a solid dissolves in water heat is either absorbed or released, which results in either an endothermal or exothermic reaction. An endothermic reaction is defined as the process in which energy, as heat, flows from the surrounding into the system. While an exothermic reaction is defined as the process in which energy, as heat, flows out of the system into the surroundings. When an endothermic reaction occurs, heat it taken in making the pack cool down, and in an exothermic reaction occurs heat is released making the pack warm up.

This is able to happen because the energy from the environment (surroundings) is either being absorbed or released to help the crystalline substance to dissolve. One entrust be able to tell if the substance will be a good candidate for a hot pack or cold pack based on change in temperature. If there is a negative change in temperature than an endothermic reaction has occurred, lowing the temperature of the content in the cold pack. past when an exothermic reaction occurs, the temperature change is positive, making it a good candidate for a hot pack. In addition in order to complete this lab several questions had to be use to calculate the amount of heat released/absorbed by one gram and to calculate % error.
